Searching for Facilities Impacted by the February 2023 Earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria

If you are looking to understand which facilities were affected by the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria in February of 2023, this resource outlines how to search OS Hub in those regions.

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria (in February of 2023), many want to understand how to support the affected communities, in both the short and long term.

Knowing that large numbers of production facilities are located in this region, if you are looking to understand which facilities were affected and/or who you could collaborate with to provide support to workers and local communities, this search in Open Supply Hub outlines the approximate area most severely hit. While not every facility in the region is mapped, as of February 2023, over 13,000 were listed and accessible for free for anyone to search.

Additional Filters:

  • Given the density of apparel and textile production in this region, click here to access a search filtered for only apparel/textile facilities.

  • This dataset has also been layered over Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale (MMI) reports measuring earthquake intensity to determine which listed facilities are located in the hardest hit regions. You can find a download of those listed facilities and their OS IDs (as of February 2023) here.

    • You can also access dynamic search results below, organized by earthquake intensity. Each link below shows the listed facilities in an area documented as having experienced the corresponding MMI. The MMI ranges from 0-12, with 12 being the highest intensity.

How to find overlap within the impacted region and specific data sets

If you are an organization that has contributed data to Open Supply Hub or you are looking to understand how specific organizations are connected to potentially impacted facilities and their communities, follow these steps to further refine the above search:

  1. Click on this link to access the pre-built search outlining the area impacted by the earthquakes.
  2. In the filters on the left, type in/select your organization or the organization(s) you are focusing on in the Data Contributor field.

Note: If you are searching for multiple organizations and only want to see the facilities they share, check the “Show only shared facilities” box that will appear once multiple Data Contributors are selected

3. Hit Search.

You will now receive search results containing the listed facilities in the impacted region that are connected to the Data Contributor(s) you entered. From here you can download that list into a CSV or Excel file to see whether other organizations are connected to those facilities, for potential collaboration around relief efforts.
