OS Hub, a US-based global nonprofit, is seeking a full-time Data Community Lead to help contribute to the depth and growth of our impact through our public data program. The Data Community Lead will be responsible for both reviewing, analyzing, structuring, and cleaning global supply chain data and building an open community around contributing and using that data. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills in data science, experience building open community processes, and excel at developing content to onboard new volunteers and community partners.
Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this individual will play a key role sourcing, cleaning and updating global supply chain data from a variety of sources through individual action and supporting the nascent Open Supply Hub data community. Initially the role focuses on cleaning, organizing, enhancing, and analyzing global supply chain data from public sources. In 2025 Open Supply Hub aims to build a broader data community and this role will be responsible for setting up the architecture of collaboration and engaging potential community managers.
The Data Community Lead will focus on building, nurturing, and managing the community around open data initiatives. This individual will engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, including data scientists, researchers, developers, government agencies, and other non-profit organizations, to foster a collaborative and vibrant community contributing and utilizing the largest dataset of open supply chain data in the world.
Responsibilities
- Community Building and Engagement - 25%
Develop and implement strategies to grow and engage the open data community.
Foster an inclusive environment that encourages knowledge sharing, collaboration, and participation from diverse stakeholders
Organize and manage community events, webinars, workshops, and meetups to promote engagement and collaboration
Act as the primary point of contact for community members, addressing inquiries, providing support, and facilitating discussions
- Data Analysis, Sourcing, Enhancement and Moderation - 50%
Find potential public sources of supply chain information
Scrape, process and analyze public sources of data to include in the OS Hub Platform
Contribute to data moderation and quality assurance efforts as part of the OS Hub Data Team
Analyze and organize large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights. Utilize statistical techniques and data visualization tools to interpret and present findings
Perform initial cleaning of facilities and production sites to remove duplicate entries and standardize records
Ensure data accuracy and consistency by validating and correcting discrepancies in facility records
Perform geospatial analysis on OS Hub and partner data as needed
- Documentation, Examples and Tutorials - 25%
Developing data scraping tools and examples for use and modification by community members
Develop and deliver educational materials and training sessions to empower community members to utilize open data effectively
Stay informed about the latest trends, tools, and best practices in the open data space and share knowledge with the community

The Ideal Candidate
Proven experience as a community manager or similar role in an open data or open-source community
Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, QGIS, ).
Experience building open processes using tools such as wikis, ticket tracking systems, source control, and chat
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, especially in developing tutorials and technical examples
Experience with data visualization and reporting tools
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
4-6 years of experience in a related role
Received undergraduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience

This full-time position offers a base salary range of $70,000 to $80,000 annually, commensurate on experience and location.

Location
While this position is remote, due to the location of the team and responsibilities of the role, we ask that the employee reside in and be eligible to work in the United States. The employee must be able to interact regularly with team members and customers in Europe and around the globe.
Evaluation Stages:
1st Interview: This is a 30-minute interview with OS Hub's CTO & Senior Operations Manager. The first five minutes will be introductions, the following 20 minutes will focus on the candidate's past experiences and skill set, and the remaining time will be an opportunity for the candidate to ask and answer any questions about the opportunity and/or organization.
2nd Interview: This is a 45 minute interview with OS Hub's Senior Product Manager & Business Development Director. The first ten minutes will be introductions and a brief overview of the role and team dynamics. The following 30 minutes will focus on the candidate's technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and past project experiences. The remaining time will be allocated for the candidate to ask questions about the team, projects, and company culture.
Project: Finalists will receive a small project that will take less than one hour that will provide an opportunity to showcase some of the candidates technical skills.
3rd Interview: This is a 45 minute interview with OS Hub's Stakeholder Engagement Director & Data Team Manager. The first five minutes will be introductions. The following 25 minutes will focus on the candidate's past experiences and skill set, emphasizing alignment with company goals and vision. The remaining time will be an opportunity for the candidate to ask and answer any questions about the opportunity, organization, and potential future opportunities.
