Emissions & Energy Use
This section shows whether environmental data, including greenhouse gas emissions estimates and energy activity, is available for this production location through integrations with Spotlight Partners. Partners in this category are organizations that collect, model, or aggregate facility-level environmental data using a range of methodologies, which may include satellite data, remote sensing, machine learning, or direct facility reporting.
Where did this data come from?
OS Hub acts as a connector, surfacing where environmental data exists and linking to the relevant partner platform that holds it. The presence of a data point here means that one or more OS Hub partners have environmental data linked to this production location's OS ID. Each partner's data reflects their own methodology and scope.
This does not mean that these are the only emissions estimates that have been completed at this location. Let us know if you have environmental data that you’d like to add.
How can you use this data?
There are many ways you might analyze or factor this information into your programs.
One common use case for this section can be to understand whether emissions and energy use data already exists for this production location before requesting new data, helping reduce duplicate requests and streamline environmental due diligence.
Use this data to get an indicative picture of a production location's emissions footprint and energy intensity as part of your supply chain environmental due diligence or Scope 3 reporting. Specific use cases include:
Identifying carbon hotspots in your supply chain and prioritizing decarbonization efforts
Evaluating energy intensity trends or identifying high-consumption facilities
Informing climate-related disclosures and environmental due diligence reporting
Note that accessing the full data will typically require an account or subscription with the partner. Follow the link to the partner's website to find out more about access requirements. Even without full access, knowing that data exists can support all of the use cases above.
Check out specific case studies from each of the partners below for additional inspiration.

Estimated Annual Emissions
Climate TRACE provides facility-level greenhouse gas emissions data for all sectors globally*. Emissions are estimated at the facility level using a combination of supplier-provided data, economic data, and emission factors. Data is provided at a monthly granularity and allows users to understand their GHG footprint relative to others in the industry.
*Note: Not all OS Hub production locations will have Climate TRACE data. Coverage depends on whether the Climate TRACE facility has a matching record in the OS Hub database.
Data points
Estimated Annual Emissions: GHG emissions from the facility for a given year, starting January 1 and ending on December 31st. Emissions are expressed in CO2 equivalents (100-year time horizon).
Estimated Annual Throughput: Estimated annual production throughput in Kg per year. This field is populated when a production location provides annual throughput directly*, or calculated from fuel consumption when throughput isn't available, but is left blank when neither is provided, as the alternative country-level baseline estimate risks being significantly misleading.
Emissions Method: Depending on data availability, Climate TRACE provides emissions using any of the following methods:
- Facility Reported: Emissions derived from throughput and fuel consumption submitted by the production location**. Hierarchy of data category: Best.
- Partially Reported: Fuel consumption and process emissions estimated based on production location-submitted throughput* (No fuel consumption data submitted). Hierarchy of data category: High.
- Partially Modeled: Fuel consumption and process emissions estimated based on production location-submitted fuel consumption* (No throughput data submitted). Hierarchy of data category: Moderate.
- Fully Modeled: Fuel consumption and process emissions estimated based on Climate TRACE internal estimates based on country, sector, product type. (No throughput or fuel consumption data submitted by the production location). Hierarchy of data category: Lowest.
** Production Location owners and managers can provide energy consumption and annual throughput data when submitting a claim on OS Hub. Learn more about this process here.
Methodology
Each Climate TRACE sector uses a different methodology, ranging from the use of satellite-derived data on site level activity to disaggregating annual country-level production to all facilities in a country. Detailed methodology documentation are available here.
Coverage
Geographic coverage is global, with a focus on highly emissions intensive subsectors like steel, cement, chemicals, etc.
Update frequency
New data is published every month for suppliers as supplier-provided data becomes available. The underlying Emissions Model is updated once every year.
How others use this data
Climate TRACE data is currently being used by:
- Policymakers to track their GHG inventories and set more ambitious targets
- Financial institutions to track the ‘financed emissions’ in their portfolio
- Companies to reduce their supply chain/ Scope 3 emissions
