Trase
Trase is a not-for-profit initiative founded in 2015 by the Stockholm Environment Institute and Global Canopy to bring transparency to deforestation and agricultural commodity trade. Trase combines data on commodity production and trade from many different sources with a unique form of material flow analysis to map supply chains linking consumer markets, via traders, with regions of production.
Data points
Processing capacity (Wood pulp mill)
- Processing capacity (MT/year): Processing capacity of the mill, in million metric tonnes per year.
- Operations start year: The year that the mill started operating.
- Trase ID: A unique identifier used by Trase.
Processing capacity (Palm oil mill)
- Processing capacity (T FBB/hour): The facility's processing capacity in tonnes Tonnes of Fresh Fruit Bunches per hour.
- Operations start year: The year that the mill started operating.
- Trase ID: A unique identifier used by Trase.
Storage capacity (Soy)
- Storage capacity (MT): The storage capacity of the facility in metric tonnes. This information is primarily available for records originating from the SICARM; for those not included, we have provided estimates.
- Source metadata: Indicates whether a facility is listed in SICARM, Google Places or Receita Federal.
- Operations start year: The year that the facility started operating.
- Internal ID: A unique identifier used by Trase.
Processing capacity (Animal products)
- Processing capacity: The facility's processing capacity, units indicated in the value.
- Inspection level: The sanitary inspection agency under which the facility is registered corresponds to the level of government. SIF (Serviço de Inspeção Federal) is at the federal level, SIE (Serviço de Inspeção Estadual) is at the state level, SIM (Serviço de Inspeção Municipal) is at the municipal level, and CONSORCIO (consortium) is inter-municipal.
- Internal ID: A unique identifier used by Trase.

Scale & Capacity FAQs
Scale and capacity data can come from a few different sources on OS Hub, depending on who contributed it:
- Data shown in the Spotlight Scale & Capacity section comes from OS Hub's vetted Spotlight Partners.
- If the production location has been claimed, facility management may have submitted figures such as minimum order quantity, number of workers, or estimated annual throughput directly, which appear in the "Operational Details Submitted by Management" section.
- Number of workers can also appear in the General Information section, where it's crowdsourced and can be contributed by any contributor in the supply chain network, not only facility management.
This mix of sources is central to how OS Hub works: by combining data shared by partners, facility management, and the broader supply chain community, OS Hub builds a fuller picture of each production location than any single organization could provide alone - which is the same principle behind our open data model as a whole.
