OS Hub has a strong track record of fundraising from philanthropies and corporate funders, and as the organization enters an exciting stage of development, we are expanding the fundraising team to include a Principal Gifts Officer to support the organization’s growth. Our ideal candidate has a successful track record fundraising from principal donors (in particular large institutional donors including private foundations and governmental donors), and can bring this experience to support implementation of a multi-year business development strategy. They’re also excellent at communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and can support the sustainable growth of this nascent area of fundraising for OS Hub through outstanding relationship and project management. Job Description
OS Hub’s Principal Gifts Officer is an exciting new role in the global Business Development team. Reporting to the Business Development Director, this role will support with income generation from principal donors (in particular large institutional donors including private foundations and governmental donors). This is a relatively nascent fundraising area for OS Hub and will involve all aspects of the funding cycle from research and outreach to grant management, reporting, and stewardship. While the portfolio grows, the successful candidate will support the Business Development Director in all areas of business development and fundraising, including contributing to strategy and systems development, the development of communications materials for new business, new business research, and proposal writing for all funding disciplines.
The Principal Gifts Officer will work closely with all teams across the organization to:
Contribute to the successful implementation of OS Hub’s business development strategy, with a focus on generating restricted and unrestricted income
Understand funding priorities from across the organization and help package them for identified donors through impactful communication materials
Lead on all aspects of the funding cycle (identification, cultivation, solicitation, partnership management including grant compliance and reporting, and stewardship of relationships) in line with OS Hub’s internal systems and processes and with full support from the Business Development Director
Support the Board and Executive Director to nurture connections and contacts through helping to develop solicitation plans and communications materials
Support the organization to meet its annual business development goals through supporting with any ad-hoc funding proposals to corporate and other funders as the need arises
The position is remote, but we ask that the employee be located in the United States and must have an excellent grasp of the US fundraising landscape. in. This is a full-time, salaried position. Benefits include medical and dental insurance and a generous parental leave and vacation policy.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Systems:
Co-creating OS Hub’s strategy for principal donors (in particular large institutional donors including private foundations and governmental donors) with the Business Development Director
Support the strengthening of internal processes needed to aid relationship management with funders with the ultimate goal of supporting retention, maximizing giving potential, and maintaining strategic alliances
Monitoring and tracking all donor engagement activity in the organization’s CRM database (Hubspot)
Collaborating with the Operations Team to establish a plan for OS Hub’s application to top charity rating sites and giving platforms, to build upon our capacity to accept gifts from individuals
Income generation and donor management:
Support with building a pipeline of prospective donors that are interested in OS Hub’s vision and mission through independent research and supporting Board, Executive Director and Business Development Director outreach and communication with their networks.
Introducing OS Hub’s mission, projects and vision to prospective principal donors, in partnership with the Business Development Director and engaging relevant team members as necessary to share the insights and vision needed to build these relationships
- Involved in the whole funding cycle with principal donors, to include:
🔺 Identification of and research into funders
🔺 Cultivation of existing and new relationships
🔺 Supporting with solicitation through developing proposals, concept notes, and pitches
🔺 Leading on partnership management, including grant compliance and reporting
🔺 Stewardship of funder relationships - Supporting achievement of and reporting on quarterly fundraising goals

Development of materials and resources needed to communicate effectively about the value proposition of OS Hub, ensuring all materials are impactful, on brand, and in line with our strategy
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a fundraising professional with 5-7 years of experience delivering fundraising strategies for principal donors (in particular large institutional donors including private foundations and governmental donors). You will have demonstrated success in fundraising, and achieving raise targets. Your prior experience will have been fundraising within an international development and/or tech setting, ideally with a specific focus on one or all of the following: supply chains, human rights, environmental rights, innovative technology platforms, or open data.
You are excellent at building relationships both internally and externally, and are able to support the “behind-the-scenes” work needed to solicit donations
You are target focused and energized by fundraising to meet ambitious income targets that will support OS Hub’s growth
You’re excited to support the development and growth of this nascent area of OS Hub’s fundraising while also supporting all other areas of fundraising as the need arises
You’re able to communicate effectively about big-picture concepts and programs that use open data and mapping to combat intractable issues that persist within supply chains - issues like modern day slavery and environmental degradation
You have experience in all aspects of the funding cycle (as outlined above) for both existing and prospective new funders, and have creative ideas about the events or opportunities we can offer individuals to expose them creatively to OS Hub’s work
You are excited about OS Hub’s mission, opportunities for growth and potential impact; you are an advocate for the power of open data
You are open to a pro-feedback, pro-fun, mission-driven and global workplace culture and have experience working in a remote environment
You are willing to travel for team convenings, funder meetings and conferences, as needed.
Must Have
5-7 years of relevant experience contributing to a business development strategy with a focus on principal donors
A successful record of raising funds from principal donors, ideally of six figures and above per gift
Experience nurturing relationships through each step of the funding cycle for funders you’re responsible for (identification, cultivation, solicitation, partnership management including grant compliance and reporting, and stewardship of relationships)
Experience developing the materials needed and organizing the events/face-to-face meetings needed to support donor cultivation and stewardship of relationships
A strong understanding of fundraising in the US
Able to contribute to setting and achieving goals/KPIs over a 12-month period
Organizational and project management skills and experience, with a self-starter attitude
Excellent written and spoken English - strong communicator and presenter with both internal and external stakeholders
A passion for OS Hub’s work and mission to improve human rights and environmental conditions in and around factories and facilities by opening up supply chain data as a free, public good
Ability to think creatively and critically, with a knack for accuracy and attention to detail
Stringent at using internal systems and processes and suggesting adaptations where you can see better ways of doing things
Proficiency in the use of Google Suite (or similar), Slack (or similar), HubSpot (or similar) and video conferencing apps
Experience in a start-up, social enterprise, B Corp, nonprofit and / or small team remote environment
Nice-to-have
Experience with US Government funders
Experience in an organization that touches supply chains or open data in some capacity, or a personal knowledge of and interest in the tech space, supply chains, and/or open data
Design skills in a platform like Canva, to quickly generate presentation decks as needed
Compensation
The budgeted salary for this opportunity is $85,000 - $100,000 USD. Fees within this range will be commensurate with candidates experience and location.

Phone Screen: At our company, we use VideoAsk for video interviews with candidates we're interested in. In the video interview, there are 3 questions and you have up to 3 minutes to respond to each question. As a small team across multiple time zones, video phone screens are an effective way for us to connect with candidates asynchronously. This approach helps candidates get to know us better, while also allowing us to efficiently move our interview process forward.
1st Interview: This is a 60 minute interview with OS Hub's Business Development Director and Operations Manager. You will be asked to give a 5-10 minute presentation on any topic you wish during the interview. Our goal will be that you spend as little time prepping for this as possible (you can use an existing presentation) and is more about our team getting a sense of your presentation style. The rest of the interview will relate to your fundraising and business development skills, past experiences, and understanding in particular of US philanthropy and trends.
2nd Interview: This is a 45 minute interview with OS Hub's Product Manager & Executive Director focusing on business development with a product and technology focus.
Final Interview: This is a final 45 minute interview with OS Hub’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Partnerships & Communications Officer - an opportunity to ask and answer any final questions about the opportunity and/or organization.
